This is Week Twenty

Description of the Lesson:  This week's lesson begins with a scanning lesson and a lesson on loading pictures from a disk into a document.  Each child will import a picture of him/herself into a desktop publishing document.  After entering their personal information, the students will align text frames, design two WordArt titles, create a border and insert two graphics depicting their hobbies.

Materials:  We will be using a scanner, digital camera, disks, Microsoft Publisher 2000, and a template titled "BIO.PUB", along with a teacher-generated sample.

Skills Covered will include:

  • Define Scanner - a device that reads information on a page and stores it in the computer's memory

  • View a scanning demonstration on the SmartBoard

  • Demonstrate the steps involved in using a scanner

  • Introduce the term extension and show that graphics files have different extensions such as *.BMP and *.JPG

  • Demonstrate cropping an image

  • Use a digital camera to take each student's picture and save it on their data disk

  • Open the template for today, BIO.PUB

  • Zoom to 75%

  • Discuss the template - show that they will add their names, hometowns, ages, favorite foods, and hobbies

  • View a teacher-generated sample

  • Create a graphics frame

  • Insert a photograph

  • Group objects

  • Delete text from the template

  • Enter text into the template

  • Align text frames on the left and right

  • Zoom to 66%

  • Create a border

  • Select the WordArt Frame tool and create a frame

  • Enter text

  • Edit the text effects

  • Apply color and shadow to text

  • Change text size

  • Zoom to 75%

  • Create a graphics frame, select a graphic, and insert a graphic

  • Modify WordArt effects

  • Resize WordArt

  • Experiment with project and options

  • Save, Print, and Close the file

  • Exit Publisher
