This is Week Twenty-Five

heartsDescription of the Lesson:  Students who missed the assessment test will use this week to create a certificate of completion, the children apply their desktop publishing skills including entering text and resizing, moving and deleting text and graphics frames.  Other students will explore a new web site titled:

.

They will visit this site and practice with:  ABC, 123, Colors, Shapes, Time, or Money.  These activities are set up for Pre-K through grades 2.

heartsMaterials:  The students doing make-up work will be using Print Artist 15.0, the Assessment Checklist, and the template titled "Finish."  Once they complete their make-up assessment they will join the rest of the class using the web site Gamequarium.com.

heartsSkills Covered will include:

  • Launch the program template we will be using for class today

  • Maximize the screen

  • Discuss the template and the certificate we will be designing today

  • Discuss the changes that need to be made in the certificate

  • Replace the "Name" text with your own name

  • Move the graphic

  • Resize the ribbon graphic

  • Remove, "Delete," the sad face graphic

  • Zoom in on the revealed graphic

  • Delete the revealed graphic

  • Change the font of the name

  • Change the color of the text

  • Save your project to a disk

  • Print your project

  • Exit the program

  • Store your disk in the storage boxes

heartsKindergarten - First Grade Enrichment:  The students will be using the program Kidspiration to do an ABC Activity.  They will be selecting graphics to add to a poster to represent each letter of the alphabet.

heartsSecond - Third Grade Enrichment:  The students will be working with Typing Master to work with lessons titled "Basic Home Row" and "Word Drill."  Basic Home Row teaches the keys a, s, d, f, j, k, l, semi-colon, and the space bar.  Word drill will give the students various nonsense words to practice typing.  The students will then use the program Kidspiration to do an activity titled, "Comparison" in which they will list characteristics for two different objects and then tell how they are similar.  They will work in the graphics section of the program and then switch over to the writing section to work on sentence explanations.

heartsFourth - Fifth Grade Enrichment:  The students will be working on adding additional editing touches to their personal web page for the school web site.  We will work on selecting graphics from an Internet Site for free graphics.

heartsNews Crew Staff Meeting:  We will view and evaluate the morning news.  We will discuss some of the things they found in their previous assignment on local news shows that were good ideas we could incorporate to our show.  We will also discuss and extend the homework due today, a commercial promoting our news broadcast.

 heartsNewspaper Staff Meeting:  We will continue to discuss a possible name for the edition.  We will also discuss grade level assignments for their stories.  We will brainstorm some ideas that we could be writing about for the paper.  (The newspaper crew didn't get to meet last week due to Valentine's Day parties.)
