This is Week Eight

Description of the Lesson:  The pupils will be introduced to desktop publishing skills as they design a box cover for a computer knowledge board game.  To create the cover, they will enter and format text, create a WordArt title, insert a graphic and apply a page border.

Materials:  The students will be using Microsoft Publisher XP.  They will also use a Template titled "Box.pub".

Skills Covered will include:

• Define desktop publishing program

• Launch a computer program

• Open a program template

• Zoom in and out on a page

• Use the scroll bar

• Discuss enhancing a cover's appearance

• Select tools from the toolbar menu

• Add a text frame

• Define layout grids

• Enter text

• Define font

• Rotate text

• Highlight text

• Enlarge text

• Discuss the "Text in Overflow" button

• Resize a text frame

• Center text

• Bold text

• Apply bullets to a list

• Discuss elements of a game box cover

• Discuss the appearance of a text box

• Make a text frame clear

• Select the picture frame tool

• Create a graphics frame

• Define clipart

• Access the Science & Technology category

• Insert an image

• Create a box around the border of the page

• Apply BorderArt to the box

• Adjust the size of a border

• Change the color scheme of the project

• Save the document to a disk

• Print the document
