This is Week Thirteen

Description of the Lesson:  To create a computer rules sign, the students apply their desktop publishing skills, including adding and modifying text, moving graphics frames and inserting an appropriate image from the graphics library.  The children continue to design their signs by practicing advanced desktop publishing skills such as applying special text effects and adding page borders.

Materials:  The students will be using Print Artist 15.0.  They will also use a Template titled "rules.sgn".  The students will also be using their 3 1/2 Floppy Disk.

Skills Covered will include:

  • Define rebus - like a riddle that uses pictures to take the place of some words

  • Open the template for today's lesson from the desktop

  • Discuss the template

  • Display a teacher sample of the lesson

  • Identify needed changes

  • Point out the misspelled word and correct by double clicking on the title

  • Read the rules

  • Select and move the food graphic to place

  • Select and move the computer graphic to its place

  • Select and move the hands graphic to place

  • Access the graphics library

  • Select the "keywords" option

  • Enter "Keyb" and select the keyboard graphic

  • Reduce the size of the graphic

  • Insert and resize a new text frame

  • Enter student information into the project

  • Save and Print the project

  • Exit the program

  • Store the disk

Younger students will use the remaining class time to explore "Bailey's Bookhouse".

Older students will continue with the following assignments:

  • Display the color palette

  • Change the color of the text in the text box

  • Change the color of the title

  • Define CD - ROM - a round plastic disc which can store computer programs

  • Recall the proper handling of a CD - ROM

  • Insert a text frame

  • Enter a rule for handling a CD - ROM

  • Resize and Reposition the text frame

  • Locate and Insert an image of CD - ROMs

  • Change the title's text effect

  • Change the font of the title

  • Insert a page border

  • Save and Print the design

  • Exit the program

  • Store the disk
