Sample November Photo

Materials:

  •     November backdrop for photos

·        Internet Connection

·        Learning.com Web Site from EasyTech

Activities:

1)   We will begin the class by taking an individual photo of each student for November.  (These will be used at the end of the year for a technology project – making a movie of their changes during the year.  The project will become a portion of their electronic portfolios.)

2)  We will review the procedures for working in the learning.com program and answer any questions the students might have before continuing working in the program today.

3)    Students will click on the Icon for “Learning.com” to highlight it, and press the “enter” key to open the program.

4)    Students will enter their “Username” and “Password” to open the program.

5)    Students will then use the time that remains to work on their individual lessons in Learning.com.

6)    The students will then exit the program and clean their “office area” in preparation for the next “shift”.

 Steps:

1)  Students will each have their photo taken in front of the November backdrop.

2)  Students will navigate to the learning.com:

a.     Click on “Learning.com” Icon on the desktop

b.     Press “Enter”

c.     Enter their username

d.     Enter their password

e.      Discuss the “School District” portion that will be needed the first visit to the site from any computer before they can log-in:  Hot Springs School District

f.     Click “Enter” on the screen

g.     Students should see the following class options:

                                                    i.     “ELL Students” if they have family members who speak Spanish (This class selection will allow their parents to work with them or alone in the program with lessons being in Spanish.)

ii.     “Seniors ‘their year’” (This is the active class the students will need to work in for grading purposes for the Technology Lab.  Students may visit this site and work on lessons from ANY computer with Internet access – classroom, labs, home, etc.)

3)    The students are now ready to work on their individualized – interactive computer lessons:

a.     Click on the lesson that is Highlighted with an “orange box”.

b.     Students must work the lessons in order, they cannot skip ahead.

c.     Students must score an 80% or higher on a lesson before being allowed to continue to the next lesson.  If they score lower, they will be required to repeat the lesson.

d.     Students may print their certificates if they choose to do so, but it is NOT required.

4)    When time is up for the day, they will need to click on the “X” at the top of the window.

5)  When asked a question, they simply need to click “yes” or “OK” which ever is an option for the specific question being presented them.

6)  At the end of class, students will exit all programs and windows on their computer and prepare their “office station” for the next “employee.”

Performance Indicators

A major component of the NETS Project is the development of a general set of profiles describing technology (ICT) literate students at key developmental points in their precollege education. The profiles highlight a few important types of learning activities in which students might engage as the new NETS•S are implemented. These examples are provided in an effort to bring the standards to life and demonstrate the variety of activities possible. The profiles are divided into the following four grade ranges.  Because grade-level designations vary in different countries, age ranges are also provided.

Prior to completion of Grade 2, students will:

1. Illustrate and communicate original ideas and stories using digital tools and media-rich resources. (1,2)
3. Engage in learning activities with learners from multiple cultures through e-mail and other electronic means. (2,6)
6. Use simulations and graphical organizers to explore and depict patterns of growth such as the life cycles of plants and animals. (1,3,4)
7. Demonstrate safe and cooperative use of technology. (5)
8. Independently apply digital tools and resources to address a variety of tasks and problems. (4,6)
9. Communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology. (6)
10. Demonstrate the ability to navigate in virtual environments such as electronic books, simulation software, and Web sites. (6)
