Technology not only allows for research and data collection, but also allows the students to visit areas outside the state, country and universe through virtual field trips. The technology lab provides our students with access to aerospace and environmental experts throughout the world. Then the students can share their knowledge using our television broadcasting room. Satellites, computers and other sophisticated technology are an important part of the Langston Aerospace and Environmental Studies Magnet program to develop higher level thinking skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills. Video conferencing equipment allows them to speak directly to anyone in the world. Distance Learning plans are being made to speak to the astronauts at the International Space Station, scientists at all NASA Centers, students attending other Explorer Schools, and professionals in the aerospace and environmental fields.
Distance learning is held in the new mission control room located at Langston. This area will enable students to facilitate mock missions, communicate with other people anywhere in the world, and televise all information directly to the classrooms using different technology. Mission control is an important part of the students participation as they perform model mission tasks in the space shuttle. A mock shuttle is being built at this time for student use. It should be be completed in November. The shuttle will have the mid deck and flight deck for students to do experiments and missions.
