NASA Visits

On April 7, 2004 Langston Magnet School was visited by NASA officials from Washington D. C. and Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville Alabama.  Former Langston student and present NASA's Assistant Administrator for Public Affairs Glenn Mahone spoke at an assembly.  Mr. Mahone was accompanied by Glen Posey.  They brought mementos to share with faculty and students.  Mr. Mahone also presented to Langston a plaque from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration stating" in recognition of your dedication to excellence in education and discovery as a NASA Explorer School" and signed by Sean O'Keefe.  It has a beautiful picture and two small flags ( United States and Arkansas) that flew aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis during an assembly mission to the International Space Station, STS-112, October 7-18, 2002.

            

Flying in from Marshall Space Flight Center were Deputy Director Rex Geveden, Customer and Employee Relations Director Teresa Washington, Education Programs Manager Jim Pruitt, Pre College Officer Alicia Beam, Educational Officer Beth Ingrum, Media Relations Specialist Jack Robertson, Aerospace Education Specialists Dr. Will Robertson and Steve Culivan, Government & Community Relations Officer Tracy Lamm, Protocol Officer Pat Fuller, Public Affairs Officer Martin Jenson, Photographer George Kamba and Ken Albrecht.  The officials visited with staff, students, parents and community before and after a welcome assembly to Langston.  During the assembly Deputy Director Rex Geveden presented to Langston School a scale 1/100 replica of the Atlantis Space Shuttle with the following message "Langston Magnet Elementary School in recognition of your partnership with the NASA Explorer Schools (NES) program" .

                    

 

And the visit was completed with a special guest from Houston's Johnson Space Flight Center, astronaut Lt. Col. George Zamka.  He shared his experiences as he talk to the students.  Like the others, he visited classrooms to visit with students and staff.
