Hot Springs School District Reaches an Academic Milestone

Hot Springs, Ark. (Thursday, January 16, 2025)  — The Hot Springs School District is proud to announce a significant achievement in academic improvement. Based on the 2023-2024 ATLAS assessment results and updated cut scores, the district has surpassed the performance threshold outlined in Ark. Code Ann. § 6-15-2913, eliminating the need for Act 1082 check-ins with the Arkansas Department of Education’s District Support Unit.

The state requires Coordinated Support for districts where 40-49% of students score at the lowest performance level on the previous year’s state summative reading assessment. The Arkansas Department of Education's Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has recognized the district for surpassing the performance thresholds.

This achievement reflects the district’s unwavering commitment to academic success and the hard work of students, educators, and families.

“This milestone is a testament to the dedication of our teachers, administrators, and staff who work tirelessly to ensure every student achieves their full potential,” Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus said. “It also underscores the resilience and determination of our students and the vital support of our families and community.”

The Hot Springs District’s commitment to continuous improvement remains steadfast. Over the past year, it has also been recognized as a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School District, two schools—Main Street Visual & Performing Arts Magnet School and the Hot Springs Junior Academy—have been named Model PLC Schools, and the entire district has achieved HRS Level 1 Certification, ensuring a safe, supportive, and collaborative culture.

“This latest achievement is not the culmination, but a stepping stone toward even greater success,” added Dr. Nehus. “We are excited to continue our journey of academic excellence, empowering our students to thrive in school and beyond.”
